Function of the Rotor in Eccentric Screw Pumps
Typically shaped like a helical screw, the rotor rotates inside the stator, creating a series of sealed cavities. As it turns eccentrically, these cavities progress along the pump, moving the fluid from the inlet to the outlet with minimal turbulence or pulsation.
The rotor’s design ensures a smooth and continuous flow, even when handling highly viscous or abrasive fluids. Its interaction with the stator forms a seal that is the basis for the pump’s ability to maintain consistent pressure and flow rates.
The tight fit between the rotor and stator is crucial for maintaining the pump’s sealing properties and preventing fluid leakage.
Ensuring proper alignment and seal integrity between the rotor and stator is key to optimising performance and extending the service life of the pump.
Usually, the rotor wears slower than the stator. For fluids that do not contain solid particles, a rotor can easily outlive 3 or 4 stators.
In certain more demanding applications it is preferable to replace both the rotor and the stator at the same time, to ensure optimum performance and avoid premature stator wear as a damaged rotor may cause a poor seal between the rotor and stator, which may allow hard particles in the fluid to escape, resulting in increased wear on the stator.
Choose the rotor material according to your pump application
The rotor is made of metal, whose quality is selected in accordance with the application – steel, various grades of stainless steel, which may be chrome plated.
The rotor is a retrofit part.
SPS supplies rotors suitable for all cases, in steel and various grades of stainless steel, which can be chrome plated, ceramic coated, etc.
